Algonquin Hotel Times Square

59 West 44th Street New York, NY 10036 USA

We’re writing a new chapter in Algonquin History.

THE ALGONQUIN IS CLOSED FOR RENOVATIONS

We may be updating our look, but we promise to remain the Algonquin Hotel you know and love–with the same exceptional service, exquisite accommodations and extraordinary history.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Home to the famous literary Round Table. World-renowned cabaret performances. An environment that spawned the creation of The New Yorker magazine. Welcome to the Algonquin Hotel.

Located in the heart of Manhattan, this historic hotel is just steps away from Times Square and Broadway’s theater district. Also within walking distance are Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall and the Museum of Modern Art. It’s hard to imagine a better location for lovers of art and culture.

The Algonquin’s oak-paneled lobby retains its Edwardian luster, as do the recently refurbished 174 guest rooms. The Oak Room hosts regular cabaret performances and the famed Blue Bar, decorated with the Broadway sketches of Algonquin regular Al Hirschfeld, continues to be a meeting spot for New York’s cultural elite.

Property Highlights

  • The Algonquin's rich literary tradition continues with a modern twist. If you give the staff the name of your favorite book, they’ll load it onto a loaner Kindle for you to enjoy during your stay.
  • Ever since the 1930s when owner Frank Case welcomed a lost cat into The Algonquin, it has been a tradition to have a house feline. Matilda, the current resident, has the run of the house and is given a birthday party every year, as befits a New York celebrity.
  • Harold Ross and his wife Jane Grant came up with the idea for the award-winning magazine The New Yorker at The Algonquin in 1925. The hotel’s corridors are still papered with the magazine’s historic cartoons.
  • Starting in 1919 and continuing for 10 years, literary luminaries Robert Benchley, Dorothy Parker, Edna Ferber and others lunched daily in The Algonquin’s Rose Room at a round table they named their legendary circle after.
